CARROLLWOOD - The Greater Carrollwood-Northdale Communities Plan is one step closer to adoption as committee members prepare for the final steps in the process.
County staff recently met with Hillsborough County commissioners to go over the basic concepts of the plan.
The purpose of it is to define characteristics about the community and prepare for the future. The proposal was crafted by an advisory committee made up of residents and business leaders.
The committee will meet Jan. 12 to finalize their presentation of the plan to county commissioners. It will be discussed at a public hearing Feb. 22 before voting on whether it is consistent with the county's overall comprehensive plan.
The plan's primary focus centers on the Dale Mabry Highway corridor. Committee members said they would like to see a monorail or rail system run along Dale Mabry to ease traffic congestion.
Part of the system would also include community activity centers at designated stops along the rail line. These centers would be clusters of businesses and government centers.
The plan also calls for creating several walkways over major roads connecting to sidewalks. Also, residents would like to see an extension of recreational trails.
