Habitat Design
Landscape design for wildlife habitats isn't much different than regular landscape design. The most impotant part is to know the characteristics of your plants in relationship to where you place them. Don't plant trees or tall shrubs near the house, place them at the back of your property. Don't plant flowering perennials that recquire full sun underneath shade trees.
It always helps to jot down your design on paper before you begin. Bring your design to your local native nursery and show it to them to see if they agree with your plant placement before you start purchasing.
Ponds shouldn't be in full sun but they shouldn't be under trees that shed all their leaves either.
Put some thought and careful planning into your habitat before you just start planting stuff. This applies to whole yard designs or just buying one native plant.
